The Voice of the Viola da gamba consort, with Danielle Reutter-Harrah, soprano. The popularity of the Italian madrigal in England began in the 1580s and lasted for over 100 years. What makes this performance special is the renaissance Elizabethan viols which are primarily based on the work of John Rose, who was famous by the 1550s for his “vyalls” and other instruments. The close matching gives the ensemble a unique sound and is essential for consort music. In this genuine dialogue between soprano and the contemplative playfulness of closely matched Elizabethan viol consort we will engage the music of Italians such as Monteverdi, Marenzio, and Ferrabosco the Elder, as well as music by their English admirers Dowland, Byrd, Ward, Ferrabosco the Younger and Coperario to wind our way through this delectable landscape.

Call for Ushers!

Additionally, we are always looking for new and dedicated ushers for our concert seasons. As an usher you get free admission and one extra complimentary ticket, for showing up an hour early and representing Voices of Music to our dear patrons. If you would like to usher, please contact Joanna Joy Neuschatz at joannajoy@voicesofmusic.org or reply to this e-mail.

Warm regards and we hope to see you at the concert! And if you don’t know what a Viola da Gamba consort is: check it out HERE
